PanelView 5510
Rockwell's premium machine-level HMI terminal — tight EtherNet/IP integration with CompactLogix and ControlLogix, FactoryTalk View ME runtime, widescreen display options from 7" to 15", and panel-cut-compatible mounting for straightforward installation.
Overview
The Allen-Bradley PanelView 5510 is Rockwell Automation's primary machine-level HMI terminal, succeeding the PanelView Plus 7 series. It runs FactoryTalk View Machine Edition (ME) on a Windows IoT Enterprise platform, and is purpose-built for tight integration with Logix5000 PLCs over EtherNet/IP. Tag browsing directly from CompactLogix or ControlLogix controllers eliminates manual data entry — the developer selects PLC tags from a live browser during screen design.
The PanelView 5510 line spans 7-inch through 15-inch widescreen displays in landscape or portrait orientation, with both resistive (glove-friendly) and projected capacitive touch options. NEMA 4/4X rated enclosures on all models suit both indoor industrial and washdown-rated environments. Its Windows IoT foundation also enables third-party applications — PDF viewers, web browsers, or custom diagnostic utilities — to run alongside FTView ME, which pure-embedded HMI terminals cannot offer.
For plants standardised on the Rockwell ecosystem, the PanelView 5510 integrates with FactoryTalk Alarms and Events (centralised alarm management), FactoryTalk Historian (data logging to SQL), and FactoryTalk View Site Edition (SCADA) — making it the preferred HMI when an Ignition-based architecture is not in use.
Key Features
- Direct Logix5000 tag browsingFactoryTalk View ME connects live to any CompactLogix, ControlLogix, or MicroLogix controller during development, populating a tag browser with the full PLC tag database including UDTs and array members. Tag selection errors caused by manual string entry are eliminated.
- Windows IoT Enterprise platformThe Windows IoT base allows additional software to run concurrently with FTView ME — useful for machine documentation PDFs, remote desktop clients, or custom diagnostic web pages. Remote Desktop Protocol (RDP) is supported for remote access from engineering workstations.
- FactoryTalk ecosystem integrationPlugs directly into FactoryTalk Directory for user authentication, FactoryTalk Alarms & Events for centralised alarm management, and FactoryTalk Historian SE for SQL-based data logging — enabling plant-wide visibility without custom middleware.
- Panel-cut compatible with PV Plus 7The 5510 shares the same panel cutout dimensions as PanelView Plus 7 for most sizes, enabling direct replacement during upgrades without modification to the control panel door — a significant cost saving when refurbishing existing machines.
